Space Ship Creation Process
Here is a slideshow portraying all the steps needed to complete our space ships.
![]() Beginning Space ShipThis was the start and basic model of our space ship. We used bevel and extrude to create the shape. | ![]() Beginning Space ShipSymmetry played a big part in creating the basic body. We also needed to pay attention to size and how many sections we wanted to make up the shape. | ![]() Day 2After we were happy with our basic shape, we added smaller thrusters and a top fin, again using bevel and extrude. |
---|---|---|
![]() Day 2Instead of trying to create two identical thrusters on each side, we created a line of symmetry to make our lives easier. After adding the Symmetry Modifier, we could pick which direction we wanted the space ship to mirror itself. | ![]() Day 3Our next step was to add the base of the lasers to the front of our ship. We used bevel and hinge to swing the shape towards the front of the ship. | ![]() Day 3This was also our time to customize the ship however we liked. We could add any extra fins or change the shape however we wanted to. |
![]() Day 4After created the rest of the lasers using bevel and extrude once again, we converted our ship into an Edible Poly. | ![]() Day 4Edible Poly permanently added our symmetry to our ship and locked all other modifiers we had added. | ![]() Day 5In order to add the material and colors we wanted to our ship, we needed to add Unwrap Modifier to organize all of our polygons. |
![]() Day 5This allows us to arrange our polygons on a 2-D surface and easily identify which polygon belonged to which part of the ship. | ![]() UV EditorHere you can see the UV Editor where we arranged our Polygons. You can see that the parts of the ship that are highlighted in red are also in red on the editor. | ![]() UV Editor TemplateThis is the finished UV Editor, which we would render and take into photo shop to add our colors and photos. |
![]() Template CompletedAfter searching the internet for good quality photos and graphics, re-sizing and lots of coping and pasting, here is the finished template for the ship. It will be taken back in 3-D Studio as a Bitmap and applied to the ship as a material. | ![]() Material AddedThe Bitmap now put into materials, it is applied to the ship and now all of the polygons have color. | ![]() CompleteOur space ship is complete and rendered! Now to pick the perfect background for the ship. |
![]() Complete | ![]() CompleteOur Space Ship project is finished, they're off to explore the galaxy. |
